Barcelona, Gothic Quarter – Day 124

Our first night in Barcelona happened to be the night of UEFA Soccer Finals game between Real Madrid Atlético Madrid. We watched the game live with our AirBnb hosts which was really fun. The game was being played in Milan (where we had been a week prior) and we had seen a bunch of advertisements for the championship game while in Milan.

First things first was to rent bikes. Barcelona has great public trans, but is also very bike friendly. We rented from a shop in the Gothic Quarter called Green Bikes. Then we set off to explore this very touristy area.

Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona, built for 1888 world fair

Passeig de Lluís Companys, a promenade leading to Ciutadella Park

Lake in Ciutadella Park

Cascada Monumental in Ciutadella Park

Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar

Inside the gothic style basilica

Archeological Museum of Catalan. Museum is built over top of the excavated historical areas. Really cool museum, free entrance on Sundays after 3pm.

Cathedral of Barcelona. Mass for Corpus Christi being celebrated outdoors.
