This trip, in total, will be 19 weeks long. We will have taken countless buses and trains, and we will have taken 15 flights. I’m not an odds person, but I’d be willing to bet that there are some decent odds for us missing one of these.
Turns out, I would be right. We were booked on an 8:30am flight from Kuala Lumpur to Colombo, aaaand we missed it. This resulted in quite a debacle of a day, but TLDR is we ended up making it to Colombo by 2am the following day. We had already booked train tickets for 9:40, so after 5 hours of sleep and a quick breakfast, we took a 10 hour train ride to the town Ella. Ella is a very small town, with a population of only 300 families. Some pictures from the train ride of the beautiful countriside we rode through.
We spent the day in Ella doing a trek through the mountains. Our guide’s name was Multhubanda, he is 83 years old, and doesn’t wear shoes. He says he walks 15 km (10mi) everyday. He took us through mountainside vegetables farms and rice paddies, villages, and a part of the railway called Nine Arch Bridge.
